Just call me "stupid"...
My car was running low on gas, so I decided to fill it up last tonight. I put Madelyn in the car and set off for the gas station on 23rd street. My sister-in-law called while I was driving up there, so I was talking to her as I pulled into the station. I hopped out of the car, while talking to her, and closed the door. Suddenly I remembered that I had left my keys in the car. I checked the car door and realized that I had locked my keys in the car...with Maddy!
I ran over to the gas station attendants and asked them if they could help me. These two attendants were super helpful & tried everything to get her out. Unfortunately nothing worked & these two men were not going to admit defeat. Since Madelyn was asleep, I let them keep trying. When Maddy woke up and we were still getting nowhere I took matters into my own hands. I called 311 & told them that I had locked my baby in my car. They contacted 911 & had me repeat the message. They told me that they would send someone in a few minutes.
A few minuted later an ambulance showed up. They tried to open the door without any luck. While the paramedic was trying a police car came. Then a fire truck came! So I had three emergency vehicles with lights flashing surrounding my vehicle and trying to open the doors. Madelyn was confused & crying while looking at the 8+ men surrounding the car. Finally the police officers where able to open the door.
The paramedic went in to assess Maddy. I told them that she was fine. But, I guess it was protocol. He looked at her hemangioma and asked "how did she get this bruise on her face?" I quickly replied that it was a birthmark. "a birthmark?" he asked incredulously. You can only imagine how this looked... a mother locks her bruised & battered baby in the car!
Anyway they finally let me leave. The ambulance let me go out before them. Then as I was pulling out onto the street a jogger ran out in front of my car & I nearly hit him! Could I look any dumber to the paramedic directly behind me?! Ugh... what a night!

Oh wow, that sounds intense and nerve wracking, it did make me chuckle while I read it, but I am sure it wasn't so funny while it was going on, guess it is something that you can look back at and laugh right. I have always been paranoid of doing that. What an experience!
Aren't you going to miss this crazy NY life? Poor Maddy, locked in the car! Glad everyting is o.k.
I am so paranoid I will do that to Beckett. It's good to know that I can still get him out even if I do. What a stressful night. I'm so sorry!
Heidi! Oh my goodness.
Heidi, I laughed through this whole thing because I have done the exact same thing when Audrey was a baby!!! Firemen, police, the whole works!!! Right in the Walmart parking lot. I glad you are both well and hopefully not too traumatized. :)
oh you poor thing! my mom has a very similar story about me getting locked in a car when i was maddy's age. i guess that can be either comforting or disconcerting - depending on your opinion of me! =)
hahah.. Alicia you are so funny!
CRAZY! Ok, silly question, but do they make you pay any money if that happens?
No, no money. Luckily.
That is a great story! It was fun hearing it from you at the party last night! LOL!
Have a great week!
So I put Zachy asleep and bundled up the kids to go outside and rake the leaves last fall. Just as I shut the door I realized that I had locked us outside in 30 degree temperatures with my baby asleep in my house. We had to walk to the fire station and ask for help. They brought one fire truck, the fire chief car and police car to my house. They had to bring a ladder to my bathroom window on the second floor and crawl through the window. I feel your pain.
It is good to know I am not alone on this one... lol.
