This is a picture I snapped of Dan and his new baby girl while we were in the OR.
Drama at the Hospital: The power went out on the upper east side of Manhattan during my c-section. So the hospital had to run on back-up generators. Unfortunately, this little blackout caused many problems. First, the hospital's air conditioner stopped working (on one of New York's famous hot/humid days). This made the OR sweltering! Second, the blackout caused a delay in my removal from the operating room. We were in there for several hours before I was moved. Poor Dan had to remain in the blue jumpsuit shown (complete with work clothes underneath) while the humidity caused water droplets to fall from the ceiling. When I finally left the operating room, bound for the recovery room (or so I thought), I ended up in a small closet. Apparently there were many women who had given birth that evening and the recovery room was unable to accommodate all of them. So, Baby V. spent her first couple hours of life in an un-air conditioned OR and closet. Awesome, right?
